Power Rankings and Week 12 Picks: Chiefs Finally Fall, Division Games Cranking Up

What a rare occurrence to be welcoming in a new number 1 while simultaneously crowning a new worst team. We’re living in the future here. Now, a lot of pundits in the major media have declared the Lions as top dog for many weeks. I may have felt the same, but I’ve got a system, beliefs, a code, a moral framework, an ethical foundation. A principle-driven approach which questions the fundamental necessities required to foster an environment that is both vociferously standardized and effectively compelling while simultaneously maintaining the delicate equilibrium between the gridiron games that play out on my television screen and the gridiron game playing out in my heart. Such is the nature of the game.

We’re back to discussing the Top 10 this week, as it’s the most interesting that it’s been in a while:

Top 10

  1. Lions – Congrats to the Lions for finally achieving their collective lifelong dream of becoming the number one ranked team on my Power Rankings. Up next: Detroit is on the prowl in Indy.
  2. Bills – Classic Josh Allen regular season win over the Chiefs. Up next: a nicely timed Bye week, followed by a visit from the Niners.
  3. Chiefs – It’s probably best they get that loss out of the way. Up next: Great rebound opportunity at Carolina.
  4. Eagles – The Eagles are now in control of the NFC East, but another tough team looms on the horizon. Up next: A road date with the Rams.
  5. Steelers – Sometimes I wish I could watch this team and not have the game come down to the last drive. Up next: Thursday night in Cleveland.
  6. Ravens – The Ravens couldn’t quite get going offensively last week, and they face a similarly challenging defense again this week. Up next: Headed to LA for a battle between brothers.
  7. Packers – The Pack pulled off a narrow escape from a wild bear encounter. Up next: Niners come to Lambeau.
  8. Texans – After dismantling Dallas, this team looks to be back on track. Up next: Houston welcomes division foe, Titans.
  9. Chargers – They just keep on winning. Hard to keep ‘em out of the Top 10. Up next: a great test against the Ravens.
  10. Commanders – Tough two game slide for the Commies. Up next: Hosting the inept Cowboys.

Week 12 Games

Very interesting line up this week that features 7 divisional matchups out of the 13 total games. It also features the Harbaugh Bowl, a classic Niners/Packers game, and a promising matchup in Eagles/Rams. The 7 divisional games this week is the most in one week so far this year, and it will only be matched in Week 16, where divisional games comprise only 43.75% of the total games compared to the 53.85% of the total games this week. Of course, Week 18 is exclusively divisional games, but that’s neither here nor there. There’s clearly a divisional theme this week. I like it. It also makes this a very volatile week, potentially.

This is already long enough, so I won’t really go into detail about any of the games. I will say, though, that I’m only picking the Browns because this feels like the ultimate trap spot. That is all.

Results out Tuesday
