Championship Round + Every Possibility for Super Bowl LIX

Let’s get the divisional round results of the way first:

2-0 for the AFC, 0-2 in the NFC. I guess I just called the wrong upset. Whoops.

Now, let’s talk about the Conference Championship Games. First, I’ll go over my ideal scenario which will be my official pick. Then, we’ll discuss the other three possibilities:

Commanders/Bills

This is the ideal scenario for myself as well as probably most of America. I would not care who won a Super Bowl between these teams. This is also the least likely considering it involves both of the underdogs winning. In the last 20 years, this has only happened once, in 2018, when the Patriots and Rams both managed the feat. Over that timespan, the underdog has only won about 1/3 of the time. All in all, that gives this scenario an approximate chance of 11% to occur. Why do I think it’s possible? Jayden Daniels has been playing out of his mind. If this game is close at the end with the ball in his hands, it’s a wrap. For Buffalo, honestly, it’s gonna take them getting the right break at the right time. The only way to counter Mahomes’ dark magic is to bring a little bit of your own.

Chiefs/Eagles

This is what we call the doomsday scenario. This is a double favorite sweep and will secure my misery on February 9th. I’d probably have to pull for Philly in this instance. I really don’t need to see a Chiefs 3-peat. On the other hand, there’s something about the Eagles that I just don’t like. Maybe it’s because I root for the other team in Pennsylvania. Maybe it’s the fatigue of seeing them in the Super Bowl in recent years. Could be because I wanted Cooper DeJean to be a Steeler. I don’t know. But this shouldn’t need much explanation: Mahomes does Mahomes things, Saquon runs all over the Commies defense. It’s the stuff of nightmares.

Commanders/Chiefs

This is what appears to be the most lopsided scenario. But..I would disagree. I do think the Chiefs would be heavy favorites, but if we reach this point it would be hard to ignore the Commanders’ resume. Assuming that they would have been able to put up points on Philly’s tough defense, I think JD can keep it going against the Chiefs’ D. Now, you do have a rookie QB (no rookie QB has ever started and won the Super Bowl) going up against the guy who is on the fast track to GOAT status. So that doesn’t really bode well for Washington. But Brady was beat, Mahomes can be beat as well.

Bills/Eagles

This scenario I actually don’t mind. It would be a rowdy crowd that’s for sure. Lots of elbow dropping tables and climbing up light posts. Now add in the New Orleans factor. Talk about a wild weekend. It’d be a great game, too. A lot of rushing yards. This is probably the number two option for me.

Fortunately, or possibly unfortunately, we’ll know exactly which timeline we’re living in by the end of the night.
